How popular are sports at Villanova University?

"Sports" at Villanova means "Wildcat basketball," and THAT is very popular indeed. It's a Division I program with a Division I fanbase, and the 'Nova Nation expect Villanova to make it to the NCAA tourney every year. Football is also popular, although as it is a Division I-AA program, it does not get the same resources or general student vibe as the men's basketball team does.
