It is rare to find a school that promotes, or even allows freshmen to study abroad. However, a few years ago schools including Syracuse, NYU , and the University of Mississippi launched specific abroad programs for freshmen. If you are interested to go abroad as a freshman, look into these school and meet with an abroad advisor to see if it is an option at your school

I would suggest waiting. Your freshman year will be crazy enough, without leaving the country. Also, your first and even second year is the time to get settled into your school, your major, etc. Then, it will be easier to get involved in other things.
